Throwing code P0420
i looked up the code. should i just gut or replace the cat? car runs great. guy at autozone said it could be a bad cat, or an oil seal leak causeing the cat to perform below par. 2000 Z28.

Give your local dealer a call - tell them you heard about people getting letters for bad cats in the mail and the extended warranty. Got mine a while ago, maybe GM doesn't have your address - most people got letters explaining it in the mail.

There is no oil leak that could make this happen, unless you are leaking from the heads into the exhaust with quarts of oil...
Most likely just a bad cat, these cars are notorious for them. See the dealer and they will cover it.
Also FYI the whole exhaust system, O2's, and ECM are covered for the reg 8yr/80,000 miles normally. GM had to extend it to the current 10yr/100,000 mile one we got in the mail.
