Default 2nd to 3rd shifting > radical rpm jump

This only happens during 2-3 gear shift:

At high speeds on the Interstate, when the car is at WOT, the Yank 3600 TQ seems like it does some weird sh**. When it reaches about 6000 rpm, the shift isn't firm at all ... hesitates between the shift and the rpm's jump about 700 rpm's and the motor rev's for prob 1/2 sec.

When it shifts, it really takes off, but, I'd like to know what might be causing this. With out a firm shift at 6200 rpm, I can feel it's costing me time/speed.

I'm taking it to the track for the first time and I don't want to be beat by another car simply because it hesitated. It feels lile it might cost me .1 to .2 at the track. It would really suck to running right at 11.0 flat (wishful thinking at Orlando Speed World) and not break into the 10's just because of this hesitation. Could this be something in the tune ... maybe the converter lockup tables?

Every time I have seen this 3rd gear flare-up (3-4 times now) there were big internal problems. Driving will make it more $$$ to fix at this point as well, ESPECIALLY WOT.

Hope I'm wrong, but I hoped that on each of the prior trannys as well... The others always started with a flare up and then very shortly they would bang the limiter and not make the 2-3 shift. Seriously; get it checked out before it makes it that far. FWIW, the last time was an already built stg5 4l65e behind a 402, afr225s, fast90, etc.

I have my fingers crossed for you... FWIW the fluid was new, clean, and had no bad or burned smell to it either

JEB99TA,

Did you ever find out what was the cause of your flare?

Does anyone else know the cause/fix for this condition?.....I have the exact same issue with my trans.
