Are you using the older serial version or the newer USB based version?

is there anyway you can test it out on a computer that has an actual serial port to find out if its a hardware issue vs. a computer related issue? Also check your cig. lighter fuse to make sure its not blown. Were you using an inverter?

It could also be a failing serial cable. That happens over time due to use and wear.

The last time I tried to use my inverter was on a read using the old serial interface...the interface kept disconnecting during the read and it wasnt able to finish the read so I unplugged everything and eventually had to disconnect the battery to get the car to start again. Definitly not recommended using one during reads or writes.

I had connection issues and the serial cable went bad. Bought a new cable and the laptop connects to the VCM with no issues.

Well I guess I'll have to check the cable.I hope it's not the cable that plugs into the cars port.Does HPT make a cable that goes from the serial port of the interface to USB?
