Default EFIlive connection problem

I tried connecting efilive for the first time and get the error

efi live cannot communicate with the pcm
disconnect the scantool if it is selected
please turn off the ignition, check all cables, turn on the ignition and try again

I have EFI Flashscan FSP in my device manager
cigarette lighter outlets work
V7.4.2
GENIII 97/98 pcm (its a 98)

What am I doing wrong?

I'd pose this question over in the '98 PCM Forum at EFILive http://forum.efilive.com/.

I had a similar problem once on my truck because I didn't have the proper driver for the FlashScan loaded.

If this is V2, make sure the cables are connected securely to the V2 pad. Sometimes I get the same error and have to disconnect and reconnect them.

Turn the key to just before "Start" , second click , so you have full power to cable .

Make sure you are running the FW compatible with the so???are. I think you should be running v55 of the V2 firmware. Its under the efilive program menu.

I tried an earlier version of the so???are with a newer handset unit and it had the same error. So it probably doesnt work around the other way either.

Just follow the firmware upgrade process.

Does this tell anybody anything? I select 97/98 GEN III as the controller. I uninstalled the usb driver and software today and re did it. I am getting very frustrated. Sometimes the lights on the box flash or come on. Will the scan part of this recognize my 2006 Trailblazer 4.2I6?

Something is wrong between your V1 and the PCM:
- is PCM powered...?
- is OBD-II port powered (cigar lighter fuse)...?
- is cable from V1 to OBD-II port good...?
- is wiring from OBD-II port to PCM good...?

Key is in On position
My G-Tech meter works in both outlets
Cables and V1 are brand new
I had hooked up a scan program called pro-scan a couple weeks ago and it worked fine.

I installed a cam over the last week and the battery was disconnected. The car starts and runs ok with the new cam. Thanks for your input on both sites, btw.

I have that problem alot with 97-98 cars. I just connect the scan tool first,if it doesn't connect, try again till it does. After the first connection i don't have a problem for the rest of the day.

Could it be anything in my edit, properties, connection page I need to change. I never changed anything there. Its on Com1, baud rate of 115200 or something. I saw something about this in another post.
