Toasted PCM
Trying to upload a new tune today, it got 35% done and just sat. No
progress, no nothing.
Even got a new laptop to do the tunes with because we suspected the laptop
had a problem with communications with the car. Looks like it was the car
not the pc.
SO, how do I get this one fixed? Can the dealership flash the existing one
or do I have to buy a new one?
AND, does the dealership have to swap out the odbii connector with a new on
since this one looks to have some kind of problem? How do I prove that to
them?
ls1edit will not connect to the pcm, it get to
downloading vin and I hear the pcm click, and it does that over and over.
Shows it reconnecting with the PCM.
EFILive will not even connect now, says its not connected to a GM or obd-ii
vehicle
So I mailed my pcm to Ken and they fixed it for me. It cost $50.00 plus shipping. I sent it next day air and they sent it back to me that way. Ken and Dave are great people to work with, awesome customer service.
I ran EFILive last night and it lost comm a few times while driving home but made sure not to go near EFI today and was just going out to flash with a new tune to stop the mid-range from pinging. I didn't even have to do it, it was running fine just wanted to tweak it a little more.

Hopefully Ken reads teh post and gives me the thumbs up to send out.
BTW we have 2 cars and I have flashed both vehicles quite a few times after making EFIlive runs with no problems. 2 different laptop were used these two times I had trouble. Both times the laptops were starting to run a little slow, needing to be cleaned up some and defragged. My gut feeling is when I have overloaded my laptop and then make a EFILive run it does something to the pcm and doesn’t disconnect right.?.? Then it is a disaster waiting to happen if I then try to flash the pcm with it. I at least believe that I should reboot the laptop after each time it is connected to the car.
this time, the laptop has 2 programs installed, efilive and ls1edit, thats all. A complete new install of winme.
and today, I did not go near efilive.
Looks like I am shipping it to Ken at carputing monday.
The info: If you want to take out the PCM easier without chewing up your hands, remove the 2 push pins that hold the rain drain inplace. Lift the passenger side of the rain drain out of the way, and the pcm comes out a little easier.

I am going to do the same and have a spare one just in case something like this happens again.
