I just got done putting 03 5.3 in my s10. I have two check codes. Was going to try to get some input on them and how i might get rid of them.

Code: P0405, EGR sensor A cirvuit low

Code: P1860, TCC/PWM solenoid circuit

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P0405 -- The EGR pintle position feedback circuit is either open or shorted to ground. Egr actual pintle position is more than 20% off from what pcm is commanding. Maybe egr dont work, maybe carbon chunk holding valve open, maybe damaged wiring or terminals.

P1860 -- The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slip by calculating the difference between the engine speed and the transmission output shaft speed. When the PCM detects an excessive amount of slip when the TCC is engaged, then the DTC sets. Conditions for setting the DTC: No TCC Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) solenoid; electrical issue (P1860) -- Ensure that the vehicle's final drive ratio matches the PCM's calibration.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS:

* The PCM inhibits TCC operation.
* The PCM inhibits 4th gear, if the transmission is in the hot mode.
* The PCM illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC:

* The PCM turns OFF the MIL after three consecutive ignition cycles without a failure reported.
* A scan tool can clear the DTC from the PCM history. The PCM clears the DTC from the PCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without a failure reported.
* The PCM cancels the DTC default actions when the fault no longer exists and the ignition is OFF long enough in order to power down the PCM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:

* Ensure that the vehicle's final drive ratio matches the PCM's calibration.
* Ensure that the transmission will shift through all four gears with the gear select lever in the D4 range.

The Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation Solenoid Valve
(TCC PWM Sol. Valve) is a normally closed solenoid used to control the apply
and release of the converter clutch. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
operates the solenoid with a negative duty cycle. When vehicle operating
conditions are appropriate to apply the TCC, the PCM immediately
increases the duty cycle to approximately 42%. The PCM then ramps the
duty cycle to approximately 90% to achieve full TCC apply pressure. When
the solenoid is commanded OFF, the PCM senses high voltage. When the
solenoid is commanded ON, the PCM senses low voltage.

When the PCM detects a continuous open, short to ground or short to
power in the TCC PWM Sol. Valve circuit, then DTC P1860 sets. DTC P1860
is a type A DTC .

Inspect the wiring at the PCM, the transmission 20-way connector and
the TCC PWM Sol. Valve 2-way connector for the following conditions:
A bent terminal A backed out terminal A damaged terminal Poor
terminal tension A chafed wire A broken wire inside the insulation
Moisture intrusion Corrosion Ensure that the transmission fluid is at
the proper level. When diagnosing for an intermittent short or open
condition, massage
the wiring harness while watching the test equipment for any change.

 

This should help with the EGR code even though it is for a 2000 fbody.

The other code has to do with the Tq converter lockup solonoid. Is the converter locking up OK? Kind of hard to help without knowing the wiring you used on a conversion.

 

P1860:

0V to 12V
This DTC detects a

PWM sensor

 

I was reading what 2xLS1 posted and it says that the pcm controls the egr using the TP sensor, MAP, and engine coolent temp. If I dont have the enging coolent temp hooked up could that cause it? Also I dont even see an egr system on my truck, I was told that 03 truck motors dont have egr systems.

 

the egr systems are all part of the Emissions control system.... it's gotta have it... unless it was taken off....

 

03 5.3 engines do not have EGR. Are you sure the PCM and/or the calibration that is in it is also from a 03? I just did a quick look at a few 03 5.3 cals and all the EGR codes are set to No Error Reported because they do not have EGR.
