Default Know of a good tuner?

I'm wanting to get my '01 LS1 PCM customly tuned. I was wanting to get rig of the egr, antilock brakes, tranny, etc... Does anyone know of a good tuner that can do it relatively cheap? thanks. ... the LS1 is going into my '71 Firebird with the rest of the '01 wiring harness, but with some modifications.

the car is in eastern iowa being built, but it will go down to dallas/fort worth after it's done. i was also thinking about getting megasquirt efi and learn how to do it all. ... not quite sure what a tuner would charge me, any idea?

what engine are u building? you won't need to go megasquirt if you are using the 01 LS1 PCM...it can handle on its own

tuner would *probably* charge anywhere from $350-500; just depends. and don't have just anyone tune it

well, for now it's going to be a stock LS1 with headers and no cat. eventually i'll want to change the cam and put a supercharger on it... but i was needing to get the PCM reprogrammed b/c the entire wiring harness from a '01 TA is going into my '71 bird with the '01 drivetrain and dash. anitlock brakes are gone among other stuff and a TCI unit is going to be in charge of the A4 tranny that has paddle shifters. ... i guess just the basic stuff so i'm not throwing codes all day long... not for the engine... yet!

Contact Alex at PCM Performance

More affordable.

If you are coming through Kansas I can do it. I'm in Topeka.

Interesting concept. Are you dead set on the paddle shifters? What kind of stall are you going to run?

$150 is pretty cheap. i don't need it done for awhile yet, but i'll keep your name INTMD8.

yeah, i'll keep the paddle shifters since it and the TCI unit that needs to control them weren't cheap. i'll stay with the stock stall for now. we just want to get the car up and running first without any problems, then we'll want to add a supercharger and cam later.

You can flash the same file into a 99-02 computer, 98 will not work.

I got alittle giggle on this.

Looking at Mega squirt and has paddle shifters but want's a cheap tuner to make it work

As said before tuners are $150 -$500. I'm sure there are good tuners in Texas since a car like that should be tuned in person and not mail ordered so all the sensors can be checked out.

yeah, you guys are probably right... i should go and have someone tune it in person, but i do live a ways away from someone that can tune it.

you guys really don't think that just getting rid of the traction control, ABS, and tranny control with now engine mods can't be done through mail tune? all the other sensors are from the same '01 TA... the wiring harness is just moving over to the '71 with little mods. i guess the only concern i have is how the computer will deal with not controlling the tranny... there's one or two guys over at pro-touring.com i can ask. the quotes i got was $100-150. one guy said $150 and that he has done LS1 conversions before with the PCM using LS1 edit.

... this stock backup computer that i wanted just incase, can it be from a Z28 as well? just as long as it's 99-02?

thanks again guys, i really appreciate the help!

Any 99-02 GM V-8, 512kb PCM...hint, check scrap yards for truck computers. The dead give away outwardly is the connectors are labled RED and BLUE.
