Default 02 Sensor question..

Just had some good news..or so i think.

My shop was putting in my SFC's and panhard bar. They told me the stuff went in really nice...better then expected!

And....this is the good part (i think). On the driver side, the 02 sensor (i think that is what it is) had one wire that was torn. It sits kinda low...and it was not hanging right..looks like it hooked onto something.

I just got this car a few weeks ago..and have seen sorta poor performance, low gas mileage (21mpg on highway) and SES light is on.

Would the wire be the cause of some of that?

was it setting an SES light?
And was it the front or rear O2 sensor?

If front, then yes, it can cause poor fuel economy. (I'm assuming you're a 6 speed?)

SES light is on. previous owner did the mods last winter, and said the light went on after that. So...not sure what is causing it yet. The shop is going to check the codes this afternoon.

I think it is the front ones...its the one right after the headers.

The car is an auto.

well if it's by the headers, then it probably is the front O2 ... 21mpg is pretty good for an auto (though I can't even recall what mine got when it was stock... needless to say I'd be very happy if I could pull off 21mpg now lol)

Yes, you would have performance issues. Mine just died last week (front drivers side O2) and the car ran like crap.

Ok..the plot thickens....

Looks like both 02 sensors are giving error codes, and also the MAF Sensor Circuit Low Frequency code is being thrown.....

I guess i will fix the wire on the driver side 02 sensor..and see if one of them goes away..not sure what to do about the other errors.

Interesting. I was throwing a P0300 code, chased it down via HPTuners to the O2 sensor being bad. Repalced with new, ran good for a day. Then I got P0102, MAF Sensor Circuit Low Frequency code. So I replaced the MAF yesterday. I've been on this board for a long time, never saw a pattern with both these items like you and I just had.

I am not sure of the sensors or bad or what. The drivers side blue wire is not connected though. I could fix it.

But not sure what is wrong on the passenger side.

Maybe i should just get two new 02 sensors? Where are you getting them from?

Disconnect the battery. Fix the o2 sensor wire. Then check the fuse box in the engine compartment for a blown sensor circuit fuse.

You should also clean the inside of the MAF, a tiny amount of filth can screw them up, and the car will run like crap and throw codes. Use special MAF or electronics spray cleaner, don't touch the tiny elements inside, they are very delicate.

Then clear the codes and see how it runs...

"Where are you getting them from?"

Autozone, paid $136 for 2. Bosch 13111, they are for a rear vette and come with better heaters (work better in longtubes).

Have i ever said "i love you guys?" Well i do.

Or..have i ever said.. "i am an idiot" well i am!

I was all sad tonight...more money into my new car...

read these posts, checked the eng sens fuse, and....its bust!!!!

Yahoo!

So.....for tomorrow..i will fix that wire that is torn, replace the fuse...and things should be a bit better! Does this fuse affect the MAF Sensor too?

I am happy!

Also, to fix the wire, i was thinking of stripping it back, sliding one of those melting rubber tubes over, winding the wire together, soldering it..then melting the tube over top. Is that the recommended way?

I owe you a beer! (IF you drink!) Maybe even a case. Can i paypal you a case of beer? haha.

The MAF does indeed rely on that sensor circuit. Repair the wire as you describe and hopefully you'll be good to go. Be careful to rout the wires so they will not be melted or caught on anything passing beneath. Good luck!

Damn is all I can say for what you paid for them O2 sensors. At autozone near philly the same sensor, part # 13111 was $61.99/piece but I only paid $40 for it. I was there for over an hour trying to find the one I needed and knew I saw the part number on here, just couldn't remember it. I had a buddy and my girlfriend on the phone doing a search for me on here and the guy at autozone felt bad I was there for so long so he gave it to me for a reduced price. $136 still seems a bit high though.

so did it fix it? I had the same codes and replaced the o2's so those codes are gone but MAF sensor code remains? going to look at the fuses tomorrow.
