Default New heads tuning

Hi folks!

I'm EXTREMELY new to tuning, and just got my HPTuners along with an extensive H/C setup that I'm currently building. I did not get new injectors or a wideband setup. I'm aware it will run extremely lean up top until I tune it.

What things need to be changed so I can go full throttle? And how do I get to the injector duty cycle inside HPTuners?

this is all in the stickies, no one is gonna write a 5 page post telling you how to tune when its at the top of the forum already. I'm really not trying to be a dick, that's just a huge question/answer, and it's already laid out for you.

I currently have the Tuning 101 guide in my hand and am reading it and trying to understand and absorb all its information, I was just looking for some pointers.

If you use VCM Scanner, and use the chart display, at the top is Injector Duty (%)

Buy a wideband... Dynotunenitrous sells an Lc1 for 259 for ls1tech users .

It will be your best friend

Thanks for the injector thing.

I would buy a wideband but I have $17 in my checking account. And now the car has some massive driveability issues. I'm really upset over this, because I was confident I did everything in the instructions correctly, and now I might need all new valves. I have no money to fix it and I'm going to college in a couple weeks.

So why would you think you needed new valves? And which instructions are you referring to? What are the specs on your cam?

Sorry to hear about your woes. Keep on studying the guide and read as much as you can in the HPTuner Forums. I've learn tons from other peoples problems/mistakes and successes. Also you may want to look into the tune repository, See if there is a similar combo and compare the tune to yours. I repeat use the compare feature and try to figure out what was done, never load someone else's tune into your car. You can however copy and paste sections to try out. Without the wideband it is going to be a crap shoot to tune especially WOT. I would say if you can't get access to a wideband do all you can without it as far as tuning and do not race or go WOT until you have a wideband. I know it will be frustrating but in the long run it will be better than having to park the car with a blown engine and no money to fix it. Hang in there.

Also you may want to post a detailed message with the problems you are experiencing, details about your setup, a copy of the current tune and a couple logs. One idle log from cold using the Idle-Airflow config below and One driving around (part throttle) using the V8-Maf-WBO2 config, try to stay of WOT until the tune is closer to where it needs to be and you have a wb.

Thanks for the words of support guys.

My car was idling in a parking lot and I was trying to figure out some tuning stuff. Next thing I know I hear a loud bang followed by repeated slightly quieter bangs. My auto tech instructor feared the cam sprocket came loose and I had bent my valves. I took the valve covers off and a rocker arm bolt had broken, so it's not as bad as it could have been. This means everything is on hold until I get ahold of a new bolt.
