Default Mailorder Tune or Dyno Tune, which do i need?

2000 Trans am LS1/Auto with the following mods:
LT's with ORY, Borla 3" catback thru the Borla muffler. Lid, CAI, Ported Throttle Valve, LS6 intake. 3.73L rearend with tubular lower control arms on rearend. Trans has shift kit and billet servo. Rear 02's and EGR eliminated.
Stock heads and cam and torque converter.

After the header install the car does not seem to run as smooth as before. Obviously the SES light is on due to egr and rear o2 delete.

Is a mail order tune good at this point or do i need a dyno tune?

Thanks!!

With all those mods, you need a full tune.

I dont see any mods that would warrant a full tune really. If you get someone that is good, a mail order tune should be fine. if you plan on going forward with the mods, then to a dyno tune and make sure you get discounts for retunes...

Theres different ways to do it, some suppliers have you ship them you rPCM, they tune it and send it back, and some send you a handheld to load the tune int othe car yourself, either way they will not perform as well as a quality dyno or street tune that is tailored exactly to your car.

Since he changed the intake and throttle body, the stock VE table will be incorrect. It will be hard to get a mail order tune that will be perfect. Nothing like an on-the-car VE tune.

VE tune for bolt-ons? That's a tad overkill. It'd be different if he was doing it himself and was taking the time to learn. But, 98+% of the places he'd take it to won't touch the VE.

Y2K, if you can find a friend with a scanner, check and see where your LTFTs are. Then, save some money and get a mail order tune from someone who knows what they're doing. The 2~3 extra HP you'll get from a dyno tune isn't worth it for bolt-ons only IMO. PM wait4me (Jesse). He can help ya out.
