Idle Learn Procedure

2) Restore the PCM battery feed.
3) Turn OFF the A/C controls.
4) Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
5) Start the engine.
6) Ensure that the engine coolant temperature is more than 80°C (176°F).
7) Shift the transmission into Drive.
8) Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes.
9) Shift the transmission into Park.
10) Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes.
11) Turn OFF the engine for 30 seconds.

Manual Transmission

2) Restore the PCM battery feed.
3) Turn OFF the A/C controls.
4) Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
5) Place the transmission in Neutral.

The idle procedure seems to have changed from year to year but I go by the one I have which includes adding 5 minutes Idle with A/C on full blast so that idle trim cells 17 and 18 also get calibrated after idle no A/C was done.
This then gives a full ten minutes of idling allowing one cycle time of PCM reacting to LTFT values.

I just did the idle relearn procedure because right after I changed my plugs and wires last week, the motor would idle up and down like crazy everytime I came to a stop at a light or whatever. The rpms would jump from 400 to 1,500 rpm and sometimes stall.
After the procedure it's pretty much back to normal, but it still wigs out like that on occassion.
Does the PCM need time to learn it all the way????

Thanks
