SES error and inspections??
SES error and inspections?? i was going to get my car inspected on Saturday and before i got there the SES light came on 
took it and got the code retrieved and found out it is a bad bank 1 (drivers side??) catalytic converter. drove the car home and reset the computer and light went out. after reading the stickies, it says i still won't pass testing? something about going thru several heat cycles. if i do this, will it pass? provided of course the light does not come back on?? or is replacing the cat the only fix? if that is the case i believe instead of money on a cat i will just go ahead and get some emission headers and catted y pipe. any info/advice is appreciated.

What was the code - P0420? Stock cats are covered for 10yrs/120K on the 00-02 cars, dealer will replace it free. Did you just delete the current code or reset the PCM? If you reset the PCM all the readiness tests will have to run before you'll pass unless NC gives you a couple "not readies" requiring some miles/ignition cycles or doing some OBDII drive cycles. Thinking they just plug in and check for codes in NC now. And yes, bank 1 is the drivers side.
i went to advanced auto for the code check and he didn't tell me the exact code, just told me it was my catalytic converter. i asked which one and the idiot told me i only had one. i laughed and said no it has 2 and he plugged it back in and said it was bank 1. i didn't think to ask for the exact code and after he told me i only had one cat didn't figure i need anything else from him 
not sure how the nc tests work, i moved here from florida (as you know, no tests) and my previous nc vehicle was a 94 and they don't emission test the cars before 95.
oh, and i just reset the pcm (unhooked the neg battery cable)
should i take it to the stealership er i mean dealership??

i was reading one of the links in the stickies and it says that after 40 heat cycles, if the problem does not return, then it clears it from the memory? is a heat cycle just running the car long enough to warm up then shutting it off? am i interpreting this correctly?

If you have enough time I'd wait for the SES to come on again, verify the code and leave it on, then visit the dealer if it's P0420 or P0430. Most codes clear history after 40 ignition cycles if no error is detected, but if you do have a bad cat it'll come back on. To see how many cycles/what type for cat codes visit gearchatter.com I did just the opposite, moved from NC to FL just before they went to OBDII testing. gearchatter is where i was reading. i will wait a little bit, just need to avoid any check points or speeding tickets for a few weeks. i drive a company vehicle monday - friday so i only drive the WS6 on the weekends. i guess if it comes back on take it to a dealer and see if i can get the cat replaced? damn testing! if i still lived in orlando i wouldn't care. i would just grab some headers and an off road y
