Default Quick Poll: How many running cats with COTS disabled?

I'm specifically wondering about those with headers, where the cats are placed futher back than stock position. It seems that the stockers are so close to the engine, they probably should be protected by COTS, but with headers the cats are usually considerably further back.

Thanks!

Tommy

PS I wouldn't mind running highflow cats on my setup to get rid of some RASP, but not if I have to enable COTS. Screw that!

I have shorty headers and hi-flo cats (RT) with COT set to "False." It's been working out great so far, no issues. My thinking is that if my cats start causing problems I'll just gut 'em. To me, what's the point of putting so much time, effort, and money into tuning my car only to have COT screw up my a/f ratio. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but COT only comes into play at PE/WOT, and 99% of my driving is at partial throttle. IMHO, this whole business about "frying your cats" is WAY overrated.

I've been using the COT set to False with the FLP headers and cats for a while now. 99% of the time it is normal driving and not WOT. However, if I do hit WOT I notice a sulfur smell everytime. Also, the last time I changed back to ORP I noticed very very small black dots in the packing, almost like tiny burnt holes starting to form. I guess over time more and more "burnt" spots will appear, eventually burning the packing up???

That's a good "heads up" Pewter. It's not my thread, but thanks.

I just installed cats in my ORY and noticed that with LTs they just dont get that hot. The exhaust still smells a little too. Since I dont think they are even getting hot enough to be really effective, I'm leaving COT on False.

From what I've noticed, most everybody with a cam has to turn off COTS.

Good to hear. I guess if I decide to put some cats on I'll live "dangerous" like the rest of you guys!

Same here. I'm still trying to learn edit and have a long way to go. But after some threads on how COT will not allow to make certain adjustments, I turned it off. I have my dynomax mufflers sitting in the garage and just need to order my x-pipe, and the cats will becoming off anyhow to be replaced with duals.
