Default PIDs?

I have been tuning for years using LS1edit. I recently bought HPtuners and EFIlive and have a question about something that has gotten me so frustrated I have nearly thrown my laptop out the window. What in the **** are "PID"s? I can't find a good deffinition anywhere. From my guestimates it seems like they are readouts from sensors, but why don't they just say that? I feel like this is some inside joke no one is telling me about.

I saw that earlier but didn't see it listed. I must have missed it.
