Default Tach issue

My autometer tach was doing just fine, clipped brown and orange, tied into #10 White on the red connector. Out of the blue tach went haywire. Checked all wiring and connections and everything looks good. Replaced tach, still getting double signal, 3k rpm when it should be 1500 rpm. Quadruple checked every wire for nicks and bad connections, I have nothing. I'm lost, any idea's?

Strange... hooked it up with brown wires connected and orange cut and I get perfect tach signal.

I had a similar problem with my tach. Ended up they had the wiring inside the tach messed up which caused it not to read properly.
