Best logging hardware/software ?
Hello,
I am looking for some help with what to do for logging. I recently purchased a 98 TA. I am used to Datamaster for the LT1, and it works well. Main thing of interest for me is rate of refresh for given item. (IE # of times per second it can record the items) I currently have the old autotap cable for DOS, the LT1-edit cable, and the current LS1 edit cable. I will be logging at the drag track mostly. I can record (log) with the dos a-tap, and open it in excel, but the rate of refresh is too slow.
Thanks !

Re: Best logging hardware/software ?
Thanks, That is kinda what I was looking in to. Would you recommend efilive over atap windows software ? Anybody know if I can use the current a-tap cable I have (its about 3-4yrs old) and still get good refresh rates ? Do they make usb ?
BTW: the laptop I am using is an IBM thinkpad, 400mhz, 128ram with WIN XP. I probably would be willing to upgrade this if it helps.
Thanks again,
'J

Autotap for windows is buggy, slow and I would not recommend it to anyone. The original autotap cable version on 3-4 years old works with efilive at full speed. You can not use the bidirectional (temporary) controls with the older cable.

Re: Best logging hardware/software ?
Thanks again for the help.
The model # on the a-tap unit I have is AT1. Sounds like I will be ordering efilive v5 soon. What will I have to pay once v6 comes out next month (per the site) in order to upgrade ? My understanding is that the bi-directional controls would be of little benifit (if any) since I have LS1-edit ? Any other reason I would want to upgrade my hardware ? What is the difference between pro vs standard ?
Sorry if these are basic questions....

Difference between the pro and standard is the bi-directional controls. I really like those bidirectional controls; I used them one time when I had problems with my EVAP system, and another time when I was trying to find a good idle speed for my new cam. Instead of going into LS1edit, flashing the PCM, then listening to the idle and repeating the whole process, I could simply adjust the idle to what sounded good with the mouse in the the control pannel, then flash the PCM once.

Cal,
I see what you are saying with the bi-directional controls. So, basically I should just bite the bullet & buy the newer cable with the pro program. V6 is right around the corner per the site.
Best price would be at ? Tbyrne ?
Thanks guys,

The version number indicates bi-di support - not the model number:
Bi-directional control support for EFILiveV5.
AT1 V1.x = No
AT123 V1.x = No
AT1 V2.x = Yes
AT123 V2.x = Yes
The model number indicates which protocols are supported by the interface:
AT1 = GM vehicles.
AT2 = Ford vehicles. (N/A for EFILive)
AT123 = GM, Ford and Chrysler.

If I purchase EFILIve 5 right now, I can upgrade to V6 for free? Just confirming with you.
How would I go about doing it? Download or request a CD?

Re: Best logging hardware/software ?
If you buy EFILiveV5, you get free upgrades forever - see, there is such a thing as a free lunch
The upgrades are limited to the software component of the product that you purchased.
i.e.
if you buy EFILiveV5 Pro, you get free upgrades of the EFILive Pro software.
if you buy EFILiveV5 Std, you get free upgrades of the EFILive Std software.
You can also upgrade from Std to Pro - I'm not 100% sure of the cost of that particular upgrade.
Hardware upgrades (if necessary) will attract a modest upgrade fee.
For example, when GM moves to CAN protocol (over the next few years), if/when EFILive is changed to include support for the CAN protocol you will need a hardware upgrade - the EFILive software part of the upgrade would be free but the CAN interface cable would require an upgrade fee.
All EFILive software is available for download via EFILive's web site: www.efilive.com/downloads
CD's are currently distributed by B&B in the US. V6 will be included on the CD in the first batch of CD's created after EFILiveV6 ships.
