Very rich on Startup only??

Default Very rich on Startup only??

Since I got the new motor in and using the 30# SVO inj. and the TR230 cam, my car runs pig rich on start up's. The PCM was tuned and my only problem besides 3.9* KR at WOT is when I start the car cold it dies right away, so I start again with slight throttle and it smokes quite a bit a runs a little ruff for about 10 seconds then it runs fine on it's own, it does this when it's hot too, but not as bad, but it also suges more when hot. When I had it tuned, I was getting a MAP reading of 55-60 KPA on start up, I believe it's normally in the 35-40 KPA range. I don't know much about tuning, but can there be a mechanical problem causing this (broken valve spring)? or the removal of the AIR system? Any ideas?

I had this exact same problem also; infact, there are two black sooty patches on my garage floor made from start-ups. I cured it by scaling down the Open Loop Fuel Air Multiplier by 75%, and the Main Volumetric Effeciency by 80%.

Edit ->Eng CAL->Fuel->Sould be next to IFR ( on 99-'01 C5s it is)

I'll check with the tuner about this. It's driving me nut's not having this just start up and idle. I wouldn't mind a little surge, but to have to feather the throttle for 30 seconds every time I start the car is annoying as hell. So you think this is an ok solution, or is it a bandaid for another problem??

I don't understand why you would need to change the open loop fuel/air table when you are adjusting the VE table. The VE table is more of a global setting, not just open loop like that table. Kinda seems unnecessary.

I understand this, however why did you change both? Changing the VE table is a global adjustment, meaning it affects both open loop and closed loop. Why did you need to adjust open loop independently? If you make a broad sweeping change at idle in the VE tables, seperately changing the open loop F/A is unnecessary unless you found something else?

I adjusted the VE down because my car was idling very rich on both hot and cold start-ups; no problems getting it to start, though. Well once I did that, hot idle was good, but any other time it was still rich and had an erratic idle until it went closed loop. So I cut back the VE some more, but got stumbling and bogging. So I put the VE back to 80%, and tried a few different settings on the Open Loop mixture until I got something that worked. It's still a little out of whack in open loop(rich I think,) but much better than before.
