Default Pros / Cons to going full-on Speed Density?

I am considering doing this simply because it would be nice to be able to eliminate the MAF sensor / housing from my car to free up some space to locate nitrous nozzles. From a performance / drivability standpoint what would be the pros and cons of running MAFless?

There are no cons to running MAFLESS if its done right and a capable COS is used. Pros are improved throttle response and a power gain due to the removal of the MAF restriction also no need to worry about a dirty MAF skewing you airflow readings. I know its not as common in the states but in OZ we have mastered the process to a point where 90% of modified LS1's are running around Semi OLSD. Back in the day OZ's highest output factory released LS1 came out MAFLESS.. Thats pretty much what started the trend over here.

Yup, I dont see any downfalls at all when done correctly.

One less sensor to die or mess things up... I drive maf less cars all year long in -20 to 110 degree weather with no issues... Fuel always goes where it needs to be..

Is a SD tune affected by elevation change. Living in Denver, my weekend cruises I can easily go from 5000 to 13000 feet in elevation. The air gets pretty thin up high is that anything to be worried about with a maf less tune.

Really?!?! How did you accomplish this or are you running clsd? I've had nothing but issues w/ cylinder charge temp/bias doing some crazy things in hot/cold weather.

HP Tuners has a custom OS that works with the stock MAP, and has realtime tuning as well.

Maybe a dumb question, do you need to get a MAP sensor, or just remove the MAF?

LS1's come with a 1-bar map sensor located on the back side of the intake manifold. Cars running forced induction typically require a 2 or 3-bar map sensor to run SD full time. So to answer your question - just remove the MAF (physically AND in the PCM).

Yeah but it doesn't have VE/IAT factoring so its a flawed OS for running OLSD. EFI LIVE's OS3 or OS5 has everything you need to run OLSD in all weather conditions. Plus its free

So you don't need a new map sensor - a 2 or 3 bar - if you aren't supercharged/turbo? What about with nitrous?

And what's the difference between a 1 bar and a 2 or 3 bar?

Pro's and con's of SD have a lot to do with it though. Using HPT with no IAT/VE correction will result in an SD tune that won't account for weather correction. Thats a pretty big con for going SD. Use EFI LIVE and its not a problem and you have no cons.
