is there always going to be some knock retard?
ok i have been tuning on my car for a while and always seems to be a spot where the pcm is pulling a little timing.Do i really need to get rid off all knock retard? just curious because i know valvetrain and loud exhaust is supposed to cause a little false knock. what are you guys doing out there on this subject?

No knock is acceptable. However you will get the odd tick now and again. The main thing is that the KR is not like a saw tooth meaning constant knock is detected. I used to get zero most of the time with the odd little 1-2 deg under throttle transitions.

Do any GM PCM's use individual cylinder knock retard?
How many GM tuners ignore the knock sensor?
Ford does not use knock sensors on their performance engines, including the factory supercharged ones. I make these systems for many applications, but cannot break through to the Ford community.
As far as I know, none of the Ford guys even listen to a knock sensor on the dyno.
Here's a quote from a Ford tuner, regarding my system:

I would appreciate any insight, but please refrain from bashing the Ford guys.

From a safety standpoint its a great idea/unit, but IMHO I'm not sure that its a benefit from a performance enhancing standpoint.
I don't understand the benefit of adding a crutch to prevent damage that results from improper tuning. When proper tuning and setup is combined failures rarely result.

Not that the questions you're asking really pertain to this thread at all, but...
No, GM does not have individual KR sensors / cylinder.
I would guess that NO tuner would ignore KR data as it's a pretty clear indication that there is something wrong in your tune...

I find that odd. Thank you for that info. Should I ever get a Ford and tune it I will have that in mind.
I mean a non performance low compression motor can knock through out its whole life with no issues as it makes no power. But a performance engine... man I wouldn't run w/o knock sensors in a production performance engine and warranty it!
