Hypertech programmer III question? ok this guy has a hypertech power programmer III for sale , but its for a 97 trans am lt1, will it work on my 96 trans am lt1 as well? and also whats the use for it or what can u do with it?

The one I had years ago for my car was year specific, get the number off it and visit hypertech's website. I only used it temporarily for fan temps, shift firmness and a gear swap - never tried the tune. If it's compatable with your car and want to try it make sure it's returned to stock, don't let the battery voltage drop too low while programming, and the price is really really cheap.

ok so what could i do with it , my buddy has it and it may work I AM NOT sure but if it does with just the little things i have on my car what could i do?
I had one for a few years. For an automatic, it is useful for everything but the tune, which is not effective. For a M6, I would not do it.
It can be used to change tire size, gear ratio, shift points (auto), rev limiter, and removing the speed limiter.
And 96 & 97 use the same unit.
Get a mail-order tune, you can get all that plus a more effective tune for increased power.

Hypertech started out by making them year specific then later changed to make units that worked with multiple years.
I agree with koolaid as far as how useful they are though. If your going to mod your car to the point of needing to be able to tune the motor, they are a waste of money. Even if you just add headers you will need more capability. But they are ok if you just want to adjust trans settings on an A4 factory car, or with a mild converter. Pretty much useless for a M6.
