Default Slow PCM?? is that possible?

Here is my problem,

My 98 car only logs around 1-2 frames a second, on other cars it is 10 times
as fast with my laptop and cable....

With Edit, it is noticably slower in reading and programming the PCM that
other cars that i also use Edit on...

Can anyone give me a clue as to why? I reflashed the PCM with it making no
difference....

Has anyone ever seen this problem, and can tell me what to do to fix it? Could
this be affecting the Performance of the car any...possibly the PCM is not
"processing" information fast enough... i have been having some serious tuning
issues that i have not been able to work out

THanks

sounds like a computer port speed issue...sometimes you have to slow down the computer port speed(i.e. 115200 vs. 38400 vs. 9600). usually you need it to transmit and recieve at 9600. check under your control panel... device settings... com-ports...and set them a little lower and see if that helps....

Thanks, the problem is only on my car...i can use my EFILIVE on other cars and it works perfect.

I have noticed that 98's seems to be a tad bit slower.... I will try the slower port speeds and see if that helps

Haha....thanks

Oddly enough, i dont visit here often and i posted today and when i came back to check my post, i saw your name, but it wasn't my post ...kinda confusing to say the least

Nice name ya have too

I have found an interesting tidbit today
It logs 1.5 frames/sec in normal use, port speeds made no difference

HOWEVER, i turn on the control panel and have it activated while i am logging and i get 6.5 frames/sec

Can anyone explain this craziness to me??

Some early LS1 PCM's do not support the "GM fast dynamic" scan mode at 10 frames per second. They only support it at 5 frames per second. I'm not sure why you are only seeing 1.5 frames per second.

The 6.5 frames per second is the clincher - EFILive automatically drops the scan mode from GM fast dynamic to GM medium dynamic when bi-di controls are active.

You're best option on that vehicle is to use EFILive always in "GM medium dynamic" scan mode.

To do that:
Open the properties window, File->Properties (or hot key: Alt-Enter)

Ok, that got submitted a tad early - here's the rest of the post.

To do that:
Open the properties window, File->Properties (or hot key: Alt-Enter)
Goto the Loggin tab page
Uncheck "Automatically determine scan mode"
Select "GM medium dynamic" from the drop down list
Leave the Dynamic Packet ID at $FE.
Click OK

Now you should see 6.5 frames per second when using 18-24 channels of PIDs.

You should see the following scan rates (approx) depending on the numebr of channels of PIDs selected:
12 fps with 1-6 channels
10 fps with 7-12 channels
8 fps with 13-18 channels
6 fps with 19-24 channels
5 fps with 25-30 channels
4 fps with 31-36 channels.

Note: EFILive Version 6 checks for supported scan modes and automatically picks the best scan mode for the connected vehicle based on the number of PIDs selected.
EFILiveV6 is a free upgrade will be available soon.

Regards
Paul

Soundengineer's suggestion was a good one but unfortunately EFILiveV5 only supports 19200 baud so changing the baud rates will not have any effect on EFILiveV5.
No matter what you set it to, EFILiveV5 will reconfigure it back to 19200 when it opens the com port.

EFILiveV6 is configurable up to 115200 baud - the com port settings for V6 are configured in EFILiveV6's property window so there should be no need to ever look in the control panel to set the com port settings for EFILive V6.

Thanks, altho i still dont understand why it would go as slow at 1.5 frames/sec under normal conditions.

Paul, i emailed you a couple of logs to show you the speeds i am/was seeing if you dont care to review them and give me any suggestions you may have.

I guess at this point it is safe to say that my PCM is normal...and doing it's job. correct?
