Heeeelp, I think they're screwing me...
Took the beast in for an SES light that tripped yesterday. P0480,#1 Cooling fan relay circuit.
OK, I come to check out what they've found and they say that I need a new wiring harness and ECM!!
You wouldn't believe the price these jackasses are asking me to pay for this so called fix. I've taken the car in to someone else for a second opinion.
My man says that a PCM terminal is coroded and broken off in the harness.
The car runs fine, what do you think? I'm going to see if my local heroes at another shop can do more than replace everything, there should be a better fix than replacing all this costly wiring and brain? Plus I don't believe this is the problem because my man spoke to me with a broken voice.

That kind of failure does happen.
Specially up here in winter salt land.
BUT on a '98? Im might be leanin' towards callin'
I have had LT1 cars with PCM connector cancer.
Was also sucessful just replacing the terminal ends.
Not the whole darn harness!

Re: Heeeelp, I think they're screwing me...
Can you explain how a mechanic could replace the terminal ends, where to get the part and such. I'm sorry that I'm stupid on the subject, but I know about breaching, shooting and jumping outta perfectly good planes at night with 120 lbs. of equipment. Any help is tremendously appreciated!!!

Kinda hard to explain but here goes, The terminals can be removed from the connector. There s/be a plastic retainer to keep term. in place.
Then use a pin & slide it down one side of terminal & it will relese the lock.
Then wire/terminal will pull out.
Cut the terminal out & prolly the only place you'll find the term. ends is the dealer.
Take it to 'em & have 'em match it.
