There are currently only a couple of programs that work with 96 LT1 obd2 applications Jetchip previously known as tunercat which does not work well with vista from my understanding & lt1edit.

new laptops suck period. vista has too many compatibity issues with o\p software. may be fine in a couple years though. most tuning software i have dealt with works best with a serial port. some adaptors work and some don't.
i would trust my pcm to a pentium 2 366mzh over a new laptop.
tried to help a bud of mine down grade (yeah right) to xp pro on a new laptop, nothing worked no w\lan,lan, modem. no backwards compatible drivers on there website. might have been able to make it work though device manager\update drivers if i had a internet connection
