What do I need to read out the error codes? (1998 Trans AM)
Hi,
I have a 1998 Trans AM and I want to read out the error codes of my 1998 Trans AM.
And I also want to disable the Service Engine Light.
I want to do this with my laptop using the usb port.
I looked at ebay.com for "OBD II USB".
But I dont know what I need.
There are things for 4 USD, but i dont know if it works
http://cgi.ebay.com/OBD-II-ELM327-US...QQcmdZViewItem
the other one is this (very expensive)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Windo...spagenameZWDVW
but this is to expensive for me.
Would a single cable be ok for me?
Is there a software available which is free?
You know a software which is working with MS Vista?
Thanks a lot for your help

Any generic OBD2 reader will read the codes for you. Some even offer the ability to reset the light.
But if you want to delete the codes (i.e. !EGR), you will need a tuning package such as EFILive. Several sponsors sell EFILive and should be able to get you a good deal on it.
