Can you tune your fans to come on even when the car is off. it says on my hp tuner under fans that if it gets higher than 245? it will come on when ignition is off? but i can get it to work

any advice would be great. thanks

 

Not that I'm aware of. However you can turn the fans on via the VCM controls in ACC

 

You should be able to change the '"Fan #1 run on Minimum Temp" and "Run on Time", through your tuning software.

I am not as familiar with HPT (EFILive), but the tables are usually found under "Systems..Fans".

It obviously is used to allow the fan to continue to run for a few minutes after car shutdown. Used to help keep the IAT from becoming unduly heat-soaked.

Perhaps a HPT user will verify how you can do it, but it can be done.

Never mind i just figured it out, my cars fans now run for 410 secs after car shuts off. opfully this helps cool the car in between passes.

Whats the point ? Coolant is not circulating when the engine is off and you would only cool whats in the rad for the time you stop the engine.

 

You're still blowing air on to the engine which will cool it down considerably with the hood open

 

Yes, it works fine. Used to have it on my Avalanche so it could continue running if I was pulling something heavy that made my temps a little higher than normal.

Just have to set minimum temp for run on and then the timer for how long it's allowed to run after the key is off. Unfortunately, once your battery starts getting a little weak, this can really cause problems. I'd keep your run on time less than 90 seconds to be safe.

Yes, no substantial effect on ECT cooling.

Depending on how you have your Spark IAT table set up, running your fan a few minutes after turnoff may lower your restart IAT temperature.

Might save you a couple of degrees of IAT spark retard.

Probably chasing a marginal issue, but perhaps the main point is that a higher IAT (ambient or heat-soaked) will affect performance to a higher degree than a slightly higher ECT.

Minor issue, but if you want to do it, it can be done.
