Factory V6 with WS6 package??
Hi, I have a question concering the possibility of a factory v6 firebird with all of the WS6 apperance options. A good friend of mine is a insurance apprasier and he called me today about a particular firebird that he has the chance to purchase. Its has been hit in the front right a little but has not been totalled. Anyway he got to telling me that it has a factory WS6 hood front and rear bumper and moldings, but no WS6 badges, the only thing is, is that its a 3.8 with a 5 speed. He also knows that its absolutley a 1 owner car that was purchased brand new in eaither 2000 or 2001. Also from what he told me it doesnt have any paint work on it, he said it all looks factory and that the owner was not into modding cars that he just bought it as a toy for sunday driving. Was it possible to order a brand new V6 firebird with the WS6 package but opt outta the LS1?? Just wondering if anyone knows this. Thanks again.

There was a Firebird GT appearance package with hood stripes. There was also a performance and handling package that included a thorsen rear end, faster steering gear, 3:42 gears and dual outlet exhaust, I had it on my '01 Firebird.
But if it has a ram air hood and TA rear wing, then it's not stock, someone put those parts on afterward.

when buying a ta, i saw an ad for a ram air firebird. when i went, it was a v6. he was the only owner and owned an ss as well and a 78 t/a (seemed to be knowledgeable or at least like the cars) and said it was a factory option. i believe him. it looked to be original paint and hood matched perfectly.

He probably just had a factory WS6 hood off of a Trans Am the same color put on a V6 Firebird that came with the W68 option. You could not get a V6 with a WS6 hood from the factory.

The W68 appearance package included the Monsoon sound system (with appropriate Monsoon door panels), lip kit for the V6 body, and 2.25" dual-outlet exhaust (single in dual out) with oval tips (similar to the ones found on certain GMMG cars). It did not include Trans Am bumpers or sideskirts. The only components the W68 package shares with a Trans Am is the interior door panels with provisions for tweeters (due to the Monsoon sound system). Non-Monsoon cars only have a single 6.5" driver and the door panel in that area is flat (more horizontal leg room) with the map holder ending closer towards the rear of the car.
Firebird GT was not only an appearance package, it also included the Y87 performance package, an SLP CAI, SLP exhaust, and the front swaybar from an SS/WS6. It was offered by SLP in addition to the Firehawk and SS. Of interest on the SLP Firebird GT is the optional 16" aluminum 98+ Firehawk style wheels ($700 option). The Y87 performance package consists of 3.42's, LSD rear diff, TA/Z28 steering rack (tighter ratio), same 2.25" exhaust as the W68 package (with turndowns - not the oval tips), and higher-performance tires on the stock 16s - and starting in '99, an update to the PCM to fix throttle-lag caused by the newly introduced drive-by-wire TB. The higher-rated tires increased the speed limiter on the Y87 models to 118MPH at the highest (don't ask me how I know).
It had to have been either a V8 coming out of the factory or the hood was taken from a real WS6. There are no V6 WS6 cars. I'm not ruling out that it might have been a never-before-heard-of dealer option from BFE. There WERE however Formula WS6 cars (V6 body with V8 powerplants and suspension, and an OEM Ram Air hood/airbox from a TA). Formulas are of course V8's.
Ditto. I found a PERFECT color match Trans Am hatch for my V6. You have to switch the entire hatch (the V6 doesn't just unbolt) to change out the V6 spoiler to a TA spoiler. This hatch had been sititng in a junkyard for who knows how long - and the OEM color matched PERFECTLY.

Just found the original window sticker for my 2001 V-6 Firebird with the performance package. Unfortunatly the window sticker does not show RPO codes.
Appearance was standard T-top Firebird with dual outlet exhaust, sleak beak hood (non-ram) no uplevel rear wing.
Here is what the sticker says about the V-6 performance package: 3800 Performance package consists of: Limited slip Torsen Rear differential, Uplevel steering, Dual outlet exhaust, P235/55r16 Touring tires.
It was quick for a V-6 but way too low geared for driving on anything but back roads. 3:42 rear gears.

Another great source of information regarding the differences between years and options offered each year is a nice book I have called the Standard Catalog of Firebird by John Gunnell. 1967-2002. Lots of pictures and historical information. Statistics on each year produced. Christmas is coming, ask for it. It's like a bible for Firebird nuts.

The RPO code for the Performance Package was Y87. It also was only offered with A4 transmissions. The only appearance item it changed was that it added an additional turn-down on the exhaust (on the passenger side).
Base model for the V6's were hardtop, single turn-down exhaust (on the left), sleak beak hood, low-rise spoiler, 4 speaker sound system, cloth interior, and 5-speed manual transmission.
Appearance package was really just the lip kit on the stock V6 bumpers, t-tops, Y87 muffler but with tips, and it required/included the Monsoon sound system...
There was no official WS6 package for the V6 cars.
I took mine on a 3,000 mile road trip... It was just fine. Have to keep it between 55 and 68MPH for best MPG... But I know what you mean about the gearing... I don't even think about pulling hard on anybody over 75MPH...
