Default SD 455 LS2 Trans Am

Ran across this while looking at old Pontiacs. Look at the original window sticker and the engine code is LS2. I thought it was interesting, maybe that's just me though.

It will take a lot of work to get that baby to shine again, but the matching numbers are what collectors look at. I'm sure someone will buy it and bring it back ti its former glory.

the 450hp 454 in the 1970 chevelle was called an LS6, IIRC. eventually theyd run out of numbers. LS16 doesnt fit neatly on an RPO sheet.

Yeah the `73-74 SD 455 was the first engine to have the LS2 designation.
The first LS1 was the 1970 400 Ram Air IV SD.
Intended to be a varaint based off the 400 Ram Air V Block and rotating assembly with the Ram Air IV topend. The program got shelved and subsequently all Ram Air IV Trans Am's in 1970 got the same engine as the GTO's but kept the LS1 Designation. Only 88 were produced.

Also there is the `71-72 455 HO which was designated LS5

the Ram Air IV was never a 'SD'. it was just a RAIV. real super dutys were only in the early 60s, as offered in full size catalinas and such, ie: 421SD. then in 73-74 with the 455.

It what was originally intended to be optional in Trans Am's in place of the R/A IV but like I explained it was a shelved project. But the Trans Am R/A IV's were still called LS1's even thought the same engine in the GTO was designated L67.
