Default Who's Firebird is this???

In the January edition of GMHTP, they have event coverage of Power Tour on page 39. The photo at the top of the page has a white ls1 firebird with some killer styling mods. It looks like its modeled after the late 70's trans am. Duckbill rear wing, air scoop at top rear of fenders with vintage "trans am" lettering, and a hole cut in the hood like the old shaker hoods. The car looks absolutely wicked. Has anyone seen this car, or know where I could find more info on it?

Yeah, it's white with a blue (almost purple looking?) single stripe down the center.

Yea, straight up custom done by GM. Pretty sweet looking car. The camaro they built has people drooling for the body parts

I heard the same thing about the blue camaro being destroyed. That would be a real shame.

Why would they destroy them?

I think it is something of a liability issue, since they are a manufacturer. I once asked one of the guys behind the edelbrock displays what they do with the display heads after they have reached their useful life. Wondering if they might give a young gearhead a nice aluminum head (even though it was cut up). The guy said that the took them out behind the shop and busted 'em up.

Thanks for posting the pics, Tony. I was looking through the GMHTP website to see if they had posted the same photo that was in the mag, but couldn't find it.

I saw the photo from the magazine of the white one with the shaker hood. That car is amazing I wish they would sell it rather than trash it. It would be a shame for something that cool to not see the streets. Maybe an aftermarket company will duplicate the body kits someday?

the rear of that T/A looks so much like a 2nd gen. I like 'em. I want the spoiler on the Camaro.

Later on I can scan and host pictures that I took of the TA. I talked to the representative from GM who was at the Trans Am Nationals in Ohio. He wouldn't take the shaker apart but said I was welcome to take as many pictures as I wanted and could feel around and everything but not take it apart since he didn't know how to put it back together. Me and my dad have considered recreating it but that might be a project for later down the road. If there are enough people who ask for the pictures I will do it but if it's just one or two it will take a lot of incentive. I have about 20 pictures total of just that car.

Yeah in one of the recent issues of CHP they said they were going to destroy the cars after the hotrod power tour. The blue camaro sounds almost like a winston cup car, it has side exiting boom tubes on it which sound incredible, not to mention a 580 horse c5r motor and a huge cam, i would say its one of my favorite 4th gens i've ever seen.

Here are some pics of that car that I took at the Trans Am Nationals this year. Most of them are of the shaker setup, but I have never seen any posted before, so I thought I'd share.

They ought to auction them off to collectors as non-street legal cars, they make money and the cool cars survive

They did do a very nice job of giving it a second generation look. The rear spoiler on the trans am slightly resembles the rear of a viper... i likey. I would think enough people would be interested in the body panels off these two cars to make it worthwhile to make some kits that reproduce similar lines.
