$1500 for junker 2nd gen w/455 transplant?
Dude wants to sell a red/red 2nd gen junker that runs and drives pretty well. It has a 455 transplant. It's got some rust. Didn't ask what year it was. Looks like a 79-81.
Actually, he said it has a 455, but I can't tell the difference between the 403 and the 455! I thought I'd be able to.
Anyway, he wants $1500. Don't know.

there are a few ways to tell.. if it is a 403 it will have an oil filler tube at the front of the block.. it sticks out pretty far.. and I think all big Oldsmobile engines have them.. the thing is if it's a Olds 455 it will look the same
This shows the filler I am talking about.. if it is a Buick or Poncho engine it will look different.. if it's supposed to be a Olds 455 look at the casting numbers and match them up here http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofe455.htm

another thought that just occured to me is you could contact one of the main pontiac engine building places that you see adds for in the magazines and get some information from them

Or you can check by the left side of the water pump theres two letters that will signify the year and cubic inch of the block you will of course have to get them and search them up. also you can tell an olds block from a pontiac block easily the intake on the pontiac has a gap between it and the valley pan unlike the olds.

No 79 Trans Am's came with 455's from the Factory. Take pics and we can tell if it's a Pontiac block at least. It could be a swapped in 455 of course, or even a swapped 400 with a stroker crank.
