speaking of Ponch's T/A (and i'm guessing the reason they painted the grills gold is the studio did a cheapo paintjob on it)
i found this pic of another early 70s Firebird at the T/A national which has the same hood. I think a company made them custom back in the 70s. the shaker is attached to the hood and the cars had normal firebird air cleaners. *edit* apparently thats how the one on Ponch's car was but this one has the shaker actually mounted on the intake

I followed suit with the Heritage trans-am concept and liked Raleigh's TA...so i got ambicious...and had to deal with the lower strut tower brace problem...after LOTS of time of brainstorming and measuring and using what i had to work with i have a functional prototype...please forgive the dryer ductwork and painters tape...this pic was B4 i got everything mounted to the motor...i need to find someone to make more permanent duct work.

i just uploaded some more pics to my garage album..here are a couple more angles from late last summer..again...all the heating duct work is being used to get a good pattern and design down for the final box and duct work.
this is what i started with just to figure out some duct lengths...
from passenger side.....
..from drivers side....i left about 3/4 of and inch between bottom of air box and strut bar to allow for "shake"...and for weather strip on the scoop once its done as well.
