Mod advise for my LS1 T/A
Hey guys, Im looking to do some effective mods to my 2000 Trans am. Has 80k miles, 6spd, slp catback, k&n CAI, Hollowed out cats. I have around $800 to work with. Plan to get used "in good condition parts" to hopefully get more for my $. My goal is to be in mid to low 12s by spring. I want to know what mods have seen the most gain for the money. I live in Sarver PA, would like to pick up localy, if you have something you think I'd be interested in, PM me, email me at ilc716@yahoo.com or call/text 412 403 9941 (It wouldnt let me post on parts wanted) Thanks.

What do u think Lts, 410s and a tune would get me? That is one route i'd like to go. I'd like to do a cam at some point, but i think 410s would really help. And as far as long tubes. The cheaper ones on ebay, is the gains less compared to the bigger names like slp & hooker?

i have a 00' T/A mine is doing 12.9 with this set up
pacesetter Lt's ORY straight 3inch all the way back
85mm T/b
centerforce clutch and new slave
i wouldn't recommend drag radials with a stock 10bolt especially with the 6spd

the main thing with drag radials and a 6 speed is to NOT dump the clutch. shock the drive train and the 10 bolt goes boom.
if you slip the clutch just right, you should be fine.

Will do. Gotta respect the advice of anyone who has had first hand experiences with these things...

I found cam packages with hardened pushrods/valve springs on texas speed.com which is next on the list. Need to find a nice agressive cam that i cant street and see nice gains from. Any suggestions? Also, was looking at their head/cam package, paticularly this one: PRC 220cc 5.3L Stage 2.5 CNC Ported Heads, does anyone have experience with this set up? I'm wondering the gain increases with that package vs a cam package. Is it worth doing for the $ or stick with just the cam?

A buddy of mine has a set of ls6 heads hes not using, I could probably grab at a decent cost. Means Im going with a new cam set up, would ls6 heads be worth considering as an option?

oh wow..here we go with the heat soak crap again.....my weiand put down more power than the LS6 intake did fyi but I guess I forgot to tell the dyno it was an aluminum intake....
the fast is better yes but its also $1200 with the Tb to go with it. If you can pick up a weiand or ls6 go for it b/c with your $800 limit you wont even get the fast

I would say MT dr's, cam and valve springs, with a good tune would get you into the mid 12s with no problem. But then again it might be hard to fit that under you budget of 800. If you have good tires then drop in a 22X-23x cam with good valve springs and get a good shop to tune it in for you and you should be good to go.
Or hook up a bottle and go for 11s
