LOL...I have actually thought of the very same comparison!

I'm sure everyone realizes that, I bet a lot of people are looking at them for the fact of, this could be what the TA would look like if pontiac was still around. I would never own for the fact of it wasn't produced by GM and the prices are crazy.

I'm with you on the Firebreather. The only one that looks good from every angle. AND..its not trying to be a Firebird or Trans Am or Pontiac even. Just a custom one off of a kick *** movie car.

The Lingenfelter gives me a full on erection. I'd give up sex for a year for that car. Everything on that car, from the interior to the motor and body are sexy as hell.

No they don't...I hear all the times at shows that there are making TAs again. Then I have to explain they are JUST dressed up Camaros. They even had one of these cars on the COVER of High Performance Pontiac...come on, a Camaro on the cover of HPP???

I think it would be a lot of fun to have one and when people asked just be 100% serious and say pontiacs back and this is the new trans am.

Looks even pricier than it's twin the over priced Camaro SS. It is sweet though.

They are in "production" you can go buy either one. This is not GM doing this especially since Pontiac is still gone.

People who love T/As love the Pontiac Firebird with the Trans Am trim level. Anything else is an insult. The Ligenfelter T/As are like a butchered cover song that tried way to hard and strayed from the vision of the original; it is close enough that one would recognize it, yet a purist will understand and despise the fraud.

At the risk of starting a car war here, how different were Camaro and Trans Am when they were both coming off the same assembly line in St. Therese? We act like they were Ford vs Chrysler, but how many of us have bought and shared many parts between the two? In reality, there were trim differences, a flare here, a crease there, a bolt-on spoiler, bumper swap, headlight configuration, etc, but at the core, they were pretty much the same car. So when Lingenfelter, or some other creative organization starts to play with GM's design, why are we poking them with a stick? If GM decided to produce a car in 2012, and call it a Pontiac Trans Am, they would likely take a Camaro chassis and modify the parts you see, the trim/body; GM is famous for re-badging. Some of us would embrace the design, and others would say it should be more like this or that, just as we did with the concept/2010 Camaro.

That said, I like some of what I've seen in these 'Trans-Am' designs, but I wouldn't criticize any of them for just being modified Camaros because that is what they have always been. Check your history, which came first in 1967?

True, but in 67-81 the different GM brands had different power plants. The point I was making, though not very clearly, is that the Camaro's sister car trully died with Pontiac. Anything else is a Camaro, as the rpo and vin would state as much. My rpos and vins call my works in progress a firebird TA.

As a side note. For 160k, I could be driving a fully restored ram air III, possibly IV, or a SD 455 and have classic stylings.

http://www.examiner.com/x-8811-Detro...-to-production

here is more on the firebreather. The firebreather IMO is the best looking of the 3, but I do have a question I have been pondering. Am I the only one that thinks the best firebird or T/A ever produced was the 98-02 4th gens? I mean come on, only 345ci, and yet the HP numbers were above the ci. The 4th gens completely outperformed all the other non copo f-bodys. Dont get me wrong, I remember watching smokey and the bandit when I was 6 and falling in love with that 77 T/A, it is a beautiful icon, however I want to see a NEW designed bird, not a remake of the old classics.

I know Im just dreaming, but the new Alpha platform for the camaro seems like a perfect time to come up with a new Pontiac divison. Especially now that GM is back on its feet. I dont know about where you guys live, but around my home town in DE there are Pontiac sunfires and G6s everywhere.

I really got off topic here sorry guys just some things thats been bouncing around in my head.

yeah its still a camaro but trans am's and camaro's have been like that for decades. trans am was the cream of the crop and camaro's were the average joe's. same motor, same frame trans am's were just pimped out by GM
