Thinking of adding a WS6 or WS9 hood
#22
Is the only difference from the trufiber ws6 and ws9 hoods that the ws9 has those ugly heat extractor vents on the side? Also, I see the site says hood pins are required..I'm guessing that is only to cover any damage from using one of these?
Do they ever go on sale? lol.

There are sponsors on here that sell the trufiber ws9 hood for $502 plus $140 shipping it will cost a little more if you get it directly from trufiber. The suncoast hoods only have the rear heat extractors and they cost $100 more if you want them. Trufiber ws6 and ws9 hoods are the same except the ws9 has rear and side heat extractors while the ws6 only has them in the rear. I believe Trufiber ws6 hood is the cheapest good quality hood Ive seen. $585 shipped from ws6 store.

VFN makes IMO a nicer WS9 hood. True they both have the same basic design, but every trufiber hood I have seen has stock height nostrils on the hood, whereas the VFN is the US Exotics Outlaw Style hood which is about 1.5-2" taller than the stock WS6 hood. To each his own, but I like the Outlaw style better because it makes it look more aggressive. The only drawback is that I just bought mine and for me to pick it up it ended up costing ~$670 out the door... That was with a 10% LS1tech member discount
Here are some pics of my Outlaw WS9. Also, Check out The Alchemist's profile for more Outlaw WS9 pics

What are u ?
We have said there are several companies that make the aftermarket ram air hoods and none have come close to $1700 list price... I bought mine new from VFN and it was $670 out the door and mine is an upgrade from the standard ram air hood. You can also get the standard WS6 style ram air from them and it's $100 less at ~$570.

Here is the thread I started when I installed my Suncoast Creations Raptor Hood this past Winter.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-l...installed.html
There are multiple pictures of my car and a few of other peoples' Firebirds with the Raptor Hood as well.
Good luck with your decision. There are a lot of wicked looking hoods out there for the 4th Gen Firebird.

but i saw a couple WS6's parked next to base T/A with aftermarket Ws6 hoods and there is no way u could tell a differance they were exactly the same....
the Trufiber WS6 is differant only in the fact is has heat extractors on the back cowl
believe me i bought a banged up orignal GM Camaro SS hood for my 99 Z...then had it fixed by a good fiberglass guy it costed me $600 ...i was very pissed in the end i didnt just buy a knockoff

Looks like you have the Outlaw version, Very nice! I know what you mean about the road disappearing because it does the same for me. My poor wife can't drive my car anymore because she would need to sit on a few phonebooks to see over the hood (She's not a very tall woman)

The autobody shop owner Im friends with is going to to the fiberglass work (hood has some cracks and scratches), but he was like hey lets look up gm oem hood prices. He said the non ram air hood from gm ran 1049 or something like that, and a ram air hood was around like 2400 or 2500.
I know this thread is old, but seen that and figured I would throw in what I found out lol.
Def shop around and find used stuff.
btw, he said without prep work he would paint mine for 340....but there is some marks and cracks on the fiberglass on the trunk and spoiler that needed fixed to...so I guess we will see.

WS6 hoods did not have heat extractors. The Firehawk hood has a lower nostril design that looks almost like a sleek beak (firebird or base Trans Am hood) and heat extractors.
