Mileage has absolutely nothing to do with rust. What does is where the car was stored and how it was prepared for storage.

Seems to me there shouldn't be an issue with insuring it or registering it since the VIN is real and good, but that's just my guess.

Odd that it seems to have the '96 driveshaft still. That's the only rusty thing I really see, and those are just automatically that rusty color anyway.

if you find that issue, I'd love to see some scans of those pages.

Look at the underbody pictures. It's more dirty and has way more rust than my 48k (and lived in WI it's whole life) car has on it. A 58 mile car should be spotless.

I don't think a single person should really believe this car has 58 miles on it. Perhaps after the LS1 swap, but I heavily doubt it is really a 58 mile car unless somebody finds some proof that this car was used as a model in some advertisements or magazine articles or something back 15 years ago.

Many LS cars came with the steel driveshaft-including mine.

They didn't, IIRC most (if not all) A4 LS1s had steel shafts and M6s had aluminum.

Why would you say that? There's a ton of evidence that it's a legitimate prototype.

Correct. My 1999 A4 car came with the steel shaft. It's been changed.
========================
I see no reason to dis-believe this 1996 car was built as a test mule with the LS1 drivetrain.

I for one say it's legit. GM normally crushes these vehicles.
