Default How to Replace Center Dash Vents

On my 1998 Firebird, one of my three center dash vents is smashed and I would like to replace it. I looked in the Chilton's Repair Manual, but it doesn't have anything on removal/installation of these vents. How do you remove these vents? Do I have to remove the radio and access them that way? Thanks.

Theyre just really difficult to get out. Its friction fit in. If you're replacing it I would just pull it out and not worry about breaking. You could crack the outer ring to remove it and it wont hurt the dash. When you put the new one in just push it back into place.

Really? That's it? The old one is really broken up and I thought it may be connected to a duct. But if it's not, that's great. Thanks.

It's not a friction fit. The outer ring has one way barbs on it like a fish hook. After removing the inner parts, break the outer ring so it can be removed in pieces. Be careful not to let broken bits fall into the ducting. Just press the new one in making sure it's positioned correctly. Once you have it in, you can't remove it to adjust it.

Thanks. I did exactly what you recommended and the new vent is now in. It took only 5 minutes to replace. Thanks again!
