2002 ws6
Hey guys, I made a thread about this awhile back asking if a 2002 T/A WS6 with Magnaflow exhaust and a k and n intake with 118k miles is worth 12k or not at a dealership which there trying to sell it. They said that there going off NADA retail which is 12k for the car. The car is in GREAT condition(no leaks, engine starts right up,no whine noises while idle or driving, smooth ride, automatic shifts smooth and goes when needed too, knock on wood) I also did a video reving the engine(while warm) all the way to red line to see if it had smock out the back and there was nothing, not even a little(knock on wood). Also the oil is right where it should be and is clean. T-tops don't leak and the overall car is is awesome shape for a 2002(garage kept). So I was just curious if that deal seemed alright, cause that's all they are willing to budge since there paying off my trade in car.

No. I payed $11k for mine with 95k miles. Had pullie, lid, headers, Y pipe, catback, and a dyno tune done on it. That was a little high, but I really needed/wanted a car (wanted) and it was very very clean. And it was a 6 speed, which drives the price up. So I'd say that is too much. If you could get it for 10k, then I'd go for it, but otherwise I think you are overpaying.
EDIT: How much are they paying off on your trade in car? Didn't see that...what would the deal be? What car?

I bought a 2002 T/A ws6 m6 with 73k for 11.5k.. granted it was private party.. but for that mileage I would try and talk them down. I know when I was looking the prices in the midwest seemed the highest to me. I guess it might depend on where you live.

Way too HIGH with that mileage. Any car with that mileage is going to need things sooner than later. You don't need to have $14,000++ invested in a 10 year old car with well over 100,000 miles. That's what you would be looking at.

Thats what I paid for mine (out the door)
You can make a deal, they wanted to charge me 11.5k total (i financed a bit of it)
Your best argument would be about the mileage, you can tell/argue that GM tranmissions are notorious for going out before 150k miles (mine did )
Specs for mine when i bought it:
2001 white convertible
K&N intake
Full sound system
Exhaust (tips & muffler)
107k miles
OTD for $10,100 Taxes, lisc, reg, and whatever else
Bottom line is go with your gut instinct, if YOU like it and YOU feel it is a good price dont let anyone put you down.
People gave/give me crap about buying a vert... but when I drop the top and cruise down PCH (pacific coast highway)... i get more looks/props than 98% of cars

haaa thanks man, and yea im good with the t-tops sorta a vert. The transmission seems to shift fine and all that, but just to make sure im putting a 0 dollar deductable that fixes anything that goes wrong(rear end, trans, engine, expensive parts)for no money out of my pocket. =) I think 10k is all they will do. I would be super happy if they did 9500 that price just sounds cheap to me.

I have a 98 TA and it had 72,000 miles on it when I bought it for $8900. Id say keep looking, pick up an auto rv, they're in there with lower mileage and much much cheaper every week! I'd stay away from a dealer, just my opinion. Good luck!

I paid $10k for mine out the door and made the dealership put new visors, cats, and passenger window motor on the car. It had 77k and is an A4 and except for those parts was damn near perfect for a 2002.

Can't you find anything with lower mileage?? Sure, $9,500 is even better, but not much as you could still find yourself $11,000+ into this car in just 2 short years. Now try to sell it for decent money with 140,000+ miles or whatever on it at that time. You might get $6,000 - $7,000 for it if it is running decent but that's a potentially $5,000 hit in those two years. Is it 'worth it'?? This is just an 'example' of something to consider. We can't predict the future. Maybe this depreciation isn't much when compared to buying a new 2012 SS at $40,000 and having it worth $30,000 after two years, but eveyone has their own limits and feelings about it. Keeping the car a long time really negates the depreciation factor. When I have bought new cars I worry about the impact of selling immediately. Fortunately I have kept my new cars many years and the impact was minimal and worth every penny. Another example: Bought a 1996 Formula for approx $22,000 new back in July '96. I sold it Dec 2004 for $7,000 with almost no repair work over those years, just maintenance. That is an average of roughly $1,750 per year for an incredible ownership experience. Worth every dollar. I probably wouldn't have been happy having paid $4,000 per year. That's just me. Hopefully you can see where I am coming from. Best of luck with your decision.
