I Have a 99 TA, the security light stays on (not flashing). the car starts and runs just fine. I'm Not sure if i need to bypass the vats system or replace the bcm. Also the doors unlock but wont lock making me think it could be the BCM.

any thoughts? How can i just get the light off?

Have you tried a different key? If the resistor in the key is weak or damaged, it can cause that. Next would be the ignition cylinder. Failing that, I'd be looking at the BCM. It's a later system, but my 99 Grand Am had that problem and swapping to a new key helped for a while, but eventually I had to replace the ignition cylinder.

a few months ago i had this problem or something similar. security light was on, then off then always on. then sometimes didnt start. months later my alarm would go off for no reason or if the remote got too far from the car. out of curiosity i pulled the shock sensor out the car, where the spare tire and speaker is, security lights off no more problems EVER.
