Post Mods for my 77 Trans Am

I want to get some extra ponies for my newly bought Trans am and I was wondering what I should do. It is the 400ci and i want to know what heads, cam, exhaust, headers, intake, turbo, and intercooler I should use. I want to get around 500-700 rwhp. I only want to spend about $6000-10000. Any thoughts.

I think you are looking into an LS swap at those kind of power levels.

If I could do my engine swap on my 79 firebird again I would go the LS route

I agree with D79. I am a die hard Poncho guy, but those old school 400's are not power makers. Dont get me wrong they can but $ for $ you will get far more bang for your buck with an LS base. And you will get the weight off the front of the car and greatly help the handling. Just my opinion man.

if you want that kind of RWHP I hope you have done extensive work to the suspension and subframes.

It's a boosted section on a Pontiac bulletin board. Lots of good info.

It can be done with a Pontiac motor- get a 455 striker crank for a 400 block, Kauffman or E heads and co tact butler or Kauffman for cam and valve train
