not red wheels, but red interior on the 1981 Recaro NASCAR pace car.

Having a hard time visualizing the red on the wheels. The snowflake wheels had gold on the inside faces of the "flakes", pretty sure some of those had red accents there. There may have been some Rallye-II rims accented w/ body color instead of the normal grey. Combine one of those wheels w/ a white TA w/ a red-outlined bird (which I believe was the standard accentuating bird colors for a white TA) and there you have it. Seriously doubt it was a "special edition" though, probably just checked the right combination of color option boxes on the order form.

A friend had a "RedBird" Esprit, '79 I believe, had the 301 w/ AT. I believe it had red-accented snowflake wheels. There was also a "BlueBird" Esprit in the late '70s too.

And here's a 2nd gen T/A, white with a red interior and hood bird... perhaps someone put red wheels on one of these.

Well, I'm a geezer.. and I was totally obsessed with F-bodies in the 70's.. and I don't remember them ever making anything that matched that description. Chances are it's not something that was done by GM.

Sounds like a Firebird Esprit Redbird edition. Pontiac had a trio of 'birds in the late 70's. There was a Yellowbird Esprit, Bluebird Esprit and of course a Redbird Esprit.

The 79 10th Aniv and the 80 Turbo Pace car both had birds "outlined in red" but neither had red wheels...there was no such special edition TA.
