Default Temperature Sensor Location

How many cooling system temperature sensors are located on a 2002 Trans Am WS6? I see the one on the driver's side head on the front of the engine. Is this the only one? Does it control the fans and the temperature gauge inside?
I have been searching for this info with varying results.

Thanks!

There are locations on the front and back of both heads. The other port is blocked off. You can tap anywhere for a temperature, but the spot its in is probably the best. Yes that sensor controls the gauge and fans.

That's what I was thinking, but I have also heard that there were two different sensors. I am having some issues with the bird running hot sometimes and need to know what I was working with.

Should the fans come on if I turn the A/C on even when the car is cold? Also should they come on if I unplug this sensor?

Yes they should come on with the AC. No they will not come on if you unplug the sensor. When the sensor is unplugged the PCM thinks the engine temp is -59F. Your car will also run like crap since all the fueling tables are referenced from the coolant temp.

Well they are not coming on with the A/C. Should they both come on? I guess I need to start checking out the fan circuits.

I believe if the engine is cold and AC is on either 1 fan will come on or both come on low. When engine is warmed up and ac is on both will be on high.
