Default hey fellow F body guys

new here on the site. doing research for my 79 trans am. i have decided its more cost effective to go LS with a T56 than it is to build another or build the pontiac motor i have with a T56. I dont have any intentions of racing the car maybe just for fun every now and then but for the most part it is going to be a driver to go cruising. however i would like to have some nice power. my current setup is prob about 350-400hp im thinking id like to go maybe 550-600hp. i really like the idea of the single turbo ls set ups so i guess any advice or build ups that others have done would be cool to see. i really dont know the first thing about the LS swap in the second gen firebirds.

Don't kill that TA with a small block ls1. Big block or go home for the price of a turbo and a ls motor. You could buy a GM motor from them. http://www.chevrolet.com/performance...ck-502-ho.html

i have a buddy that all ready did the 502. it looks great but its not that impressive. id like to shave some weight on the front end anyway. i plan on saving the 400 4 speed thats in the car just in case.

I too have done bbc' s from 396 to 572.
Was fun years back but at high speeds and handling made the front end weight kind of challenging. If you have the choice now go modern. If it was a 73 on down TA I'd say keep it original.
I'm fitting a TC 5.3 in my number match 69 chevelle ss and am really hesitant and trying not to cut things up to much.

sounds like an awesome project. I've been seeing (for a while) old school Camaros at shows with newer LS engines, when they are done right it's a awesome sight

I'd like it to run cleaner plus get much better fuel economy although I will admit I'm not familiar with the ly6. Guess I will have to do some more research. This is kind of preliminary research. I'm in the middle of making a move from Ohio to either south Carolina or Georgia. Just want to get a solid plan so when in get moved I can start. I didn't really didn't want to stray away from the Pontiac and go to the dark side (LS motors) but its so much more cost effective. Its hard to resist when you see what people are doing with these motors.
