97 WS6 VS 98 WS6 What would you do?

Between the three, assuming they are all in equal condition... I'd take the '01. LS1 motor, LS6 intake, and newer computer. Much easier to deal with mods. Nothing against LT1s. If the LT1 was the cleanest of them, I'd take the LT1.
While I'd definitely agree... if I had to choose between two identical cars, and one was a '98 and one was a '99-02, I'd pick the newer one even if it cost more. The '98 computer sucks donkey ***** compared to the '99-up. It's slower, more quirky, and if you use something like HPTuners, you have to use a file from YOUR car... you can't just grab a tune from another car and use it. That alone would be worth the extra money.

Well I just went and looked at the 97, she's a cherry, Only got to c half as something happen and the owners brother showed it, interior is mint, ext was close, 1 notable on the nose down under it had been scraped, not noticeable unless your on your knees looking under neath, not the whole thing either, just the edges on the outsides where the lip rolls down a tad for arrow, did not run it I am gonna go back with the owner over the weekend, but I noticed the streak on the hood, my 96 did this and it was the water pump dripping on the belt, not sure if it was driven in the rain if water could get on the belt and do this, I'm gonna guess and say it will need a pump why not, I was told flowmasters, if its there its matted to the OEM tail pipes, K & N filter, Trans am emblems on door were removed and replaced with polished stainless, as well as Pontiac on the rear bumper had stainless inserts, only other mod was the Ws6 ball on shifter, clutch was definitely tight for me to drive, gonna have to think about that and drive it first,
definitely 1 sweet car, gonna have to ponder and see if he negotiates, with that said it sems the general consensus is still a ls1 car lol, the dealer that has it is gonna pull it out in another week or two, its up in Maine, and take me some fresh pics if I'm still looking, then go from there

Ya, i woild like one, but this 97 is local, white my sweet spot, and in very good shape, the 01 in maine appears to be nice, new tires on rear, theres a scrape right next to the plate hole, my guess is ill want touch it up, i figure 500 to go get it, its at a dealer so i have to pay full tax, thats another G, all the sudden its close to a 13500-14k car vs what might be a 10k car

Sounds like you have your Hart set on the 97 and that is ok, they are a nice car and if you plan on keeping it stock and hitting the cruise night then by all means this is the car for you. I was looking at a 6,000mi 97 ws6 car but the more I read and what I wanted (great running STREET car) with the most possibilities the LS car was the clear choice. If you plan on modding the car it will take you 2x the money to get the same results. You have stated no mods and cruise night car so get back in the game there will always be a another LS car looking for a home. If in the back of your mind you have some mods floating around then LS, LS, Ls Ls
I wouldn't say my heart is set on it, but it here and I can touch it without a investment, nothings written in stone yet, gonna go relook tomorrow, Ive never been a modder or hot rodder, just a fun driver and cruise night car, Ive even been looking at 86/88 Monte Carlo SS's

I've had a few Monty SS's, and I can say they're great cruisers, but if you're looking for something with power the 305 is not gonna cut it.... at all. Now, if you had a beefed up 350, or even an Ls1 in one you're all set.
If you were gonna spend 10k+ on a G body, you should seriously check out Grand Nationals.
