Exclamation Electrical Problem

Sup tech,

2000 Formula WS6, 105k mi.
Im having major problem with doors locking and unlocking on their own while driving or parked with key in (listening to stereo etc.), it just happens erratically. I got the car at 85k completely stock and from there the only thing electrical added was a head unit, sub+amp, which isnt the problem. Alarm installed about 8k miles ago but thats not it either, i had it disabled and it keeps on doing it. Plss help!

... Usually, these things (or bad wiring jobs related to them) are the causes of these phantom problems.

and the only reason why i got the alarm was because the oem remote wasnt opening the doors lol..once i got the alarm i tested the oem just to see and it worked. Fucken stupid, i feel like i wasted money on alarm and installation and now an added problem that i never had

Did you do the alarm install, or did you have a shop do it?

A common cause for all of this grief could be the BCM, so it might be worth taking a look at it to see if there are any obvious problems with the circuit board.

i had an alarm/stereo dealer do the installation..the bcm gave me issues before with the notorious T joint crack but i resoldered it..could this be another 'crack'? its super easy to lock myself out right now, it sucks

Did the problems start after your soldering? It's probably not another crack but something shorting as the car vibrates. You may try tapping the BCM and see if that triggers the action.

it did start after the soldering, but after a long time of when i soldered it. i dont really remember the times in between from when, but it makes sense the way you put it that the vibrations could be causing this for example not long ago when i would drive the car the locks would go off on their own .or im sitting in the car listening to the stereo and the bass of the sub could have made it happen when i noticed it. Im gonna take a look at that BCM, is there any way to replace it or is it not needed? Thanks for your help man!

Does it do it with the remote far away and only the key in, if it only does it with the remote near, could just be a faulty button/signal, older gm remotes are known for sticky buttons and not working.

- Unplug old one
- Shell out lots of money
- Plug in new one

^ I don't recall if any programming is needed. I think not since the SRS and other systems that are hard-coded for the VIN are kept separately.

Hopefully, you'll find something when you open the module.

Have not tested that yet because the remote and key are always together but that could be it? i mean the fob comes apart like nothing, and it is 'old'. As far as replacing the damn thing idk then, i might hold off on replacing and try to figure out whats going on..im gonna ask the dealer where they spliced into so i could see if anything looks wrong.
