Default Question about buying a 2000 WS6

Good morning everyone,
I'm in the market for a 98-02 ws6 and recently located a 2000 within 1.5 hours of me. My only real issue is that the car is on its 4th owner. It only has 47k miles and appears to be in great shape with no mods except exhaust. I'm bringing a mechanic with me this weekend to look at it. Have any of you bought a vehicle with similar amount of past owners and noticed any issues? Is there anything I should specifically look for or at? Id really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Ed

In my opinion it doesn't really matter how many owners it's had, what matters is how they took care of the car. That's harder to know with more owners but as long as you and the mechanic give everything a solid look you should be fine. My 2000 WS6 also had 4 previous owners, but they all garaged it, babied it, and never modded it except for the last owner who did some work to it but knew what he was doing and did great work.

My 02 WS6 had 4 previous owners, but it only has 22k miles so it basically looks new so I didn't care.. Actually I never have cared how many people owned a car previously, before carfax and such nobody really even knew

1 year ago I bought an 02 Trans AM Firehawk, 55k that had 4 owners also. So I'm the 5th. Car was in great shape, stock except for some pin stripping - but I knew about that before I bought the car.

At this age, an example with only one or two owners is usually an indication that the car will be in better shape (for its mileage), on average, than other examples with several more owners. There is also a better chance of getting comprehensive records. But obviously that won't *always* be the case.

I'd be more concerned if the last couple of owners have sold the car in rapid succession - this might indicate some phantom problem that's difficult to solve (or might simply mean that several people have bough a car they can't afford....haha.)

This is key. Its nice to know that your car has had less owners, but id rather have a car with 4 responsible previous owners, than 1 teenage kid owner who never took care of it. As mentioned, its tough to say if anyone took care of the car, but I wouldnt let that be a deal breaker, especially with 47k miles

I agree with most. Don't worry at the number of owners if the car is clean. Bring your mechanic and just go over the car! I was the 4th owner of my TA. There were 2 who just didn't pass emissions due to the exhaust. I was fine with that because I knew I could either swap the exhaust or bring it to a friend in order to pass.
