Default Installing bigger tires on a base Firebird

Hello guys, I need to know how to mount the bigger tires that for instance came on the Trans am , I have a 98 base Firebird v6 and I tried putting 245-50-16 but they rubbed the front inner wells,,, can someone shed some light on what to do here.... Thank ayou.

What sort of wheels are you using? Stock 16x8s should take a 245/50/16 no problem and with no rubbing, as that was in fact the stock setup for a Trans Am/Formula of the same year. Did you originally have 235/55/16s on the car?

Not sure why this wouldn't fit unless you're using a wheel with a different backspace/offset.

Has it been lowered? That is the stock size so they should fit without any issue. Only other reason I could think of that it would rub besides the rim offset is if it had been lowered. Even still they should fit unless it was drastically lowered.

Unless the body or suspension is tweaked, there's no reason those shouldn't fit. The base cars have the same unibody as the Formula/Trans Am/WS6 cars. I have 275/40/17's under a base Firebird, lowered on BMR springs that clear easily.
