Default Fog Light Bulb Replacement

A word of caution when replacing your fog light bulbs with anything other than spec.
Instead of 880 27 watts, I used 893 37 watts. They were listed as a suitable replacement, and were a little brighter, which I liked. I didn’t think 10 watts would be a big deal.

Less than a year later, you can see that they melted my housings.
I was wondering why one light was dimmer than the other. This is why.
Is this because of the gasket? When I first went to pull the bulb, the gasket had turned to a gum like consistency. Or maybe not. I think it came from the plug, not the bulb...

I was surprised to find the housings and lenses were plastic. I though they were metal and glass, but that would make too much sense.

New housings are ordered.
Considering going to LED. Is there a simple plug & play bulb that I should consider?
I’m not looking for blinding white. I’m not looking for a mod.
I just want to minimize the heat while trying to look close to factory whiteness.
Thanks in advance

You don't want glass. Those are so close to the road that glass would shatter instantly. (They take a beating from road debris, so we need the ductility of plastic.)

You'll need to use a 880 to manage heat. If you want more brightness, you can go with a halogen or xenon bulb. For color, you can pick out any color temperature you want. (You have lots of choices online.)

Call [non-sponsor] or Summit Racing and ask about LEDS bulbs. I'm sure someone there can help you.

Please be aware of our non-sponsor solicitation policies when posting.

This is probably a situation where the OP should self-educate on all the options out there before shopping. If they call a store, they are going to get sold what the store has in stock vs. what they may really want.

Thanks.
I couldn't find anything that was brighter, factory wattage, and warm white, so I went with factory 880.

When I did the LMC headlight housing mod, I went with Putco Pure Halogen bulbs in both the headlights and fogs. Went with the 4000k bulbs and haven't had any problems. Think they were called nitro blue back then, but have since changed to mirror white, but still 4000k. Not necessarily brighter, but I feel they have a whiter light. Bulbs are stock wattage too.

I did the same and purchased some cheap 4000K 880 bulbs off of eBay. They don't last too long, but for the price - the economics work out. This is also the only way I could find a 4000K bulb. The color makes a lot of difference.

It has probably been 3 or 4 years since I did the mod. My wifey is cool and likes driving the T/A with the fogs on all the time, so they have been used and are still working. I have used Putco brand in other cars and have had no complaints.

in my S10 with factory fogs I replaced the 881?(same as 880 but angled connector) with LEDs
luckily there was a hole in core support that allowed clearance for the massive heatsink and fan.
Wow what a difference and not near as much heat as the Halogens.

880 881 LED Fog Lamp Conversion Kit 200W 20000LM 6000K White Light Beam Bulbs search evilBay

pic of the install.
no comparison to the amount of light I get out of these and the factory plastic housings should last a long time.
