AFAIK they take the base model, convert it to a Formula, then slap on the T/A extras to wind up at the T/A.

Would certainly fit with the description I had always heard for the Formula - all the go fast bits of the T/A without the extra weight.

SPECIAL (Ram Air Package) WS9 MODEL CONVERSION, FORMULA.

In one case the Formula had the WS6 and 1LE. Do not know if the 1LE is part of the WS9?

HHmmmmm....interesting thoughts. I just purchased the car from a guy who's owned it since '01. It had a ram air hood and factory ram air box installed when he bought it, but not sure if it was added by the original owner or what. The suspension is set up with the standard decorbon shocks, so I don't think there is any special suspension upgrade there. That will probably be my next upgrade. Not looking for a streetracer or dragster, but a solid handling ride.

I have the same deal, I heard that it is because they may have been short on T/A's and had more orders, so pulled Formula's and turned them into T/A's. Just hearsay though.

Its because all T/A start as Formulas. I.E. Pontiac Firebird Formula TransAm WS6.
My WS6 has both the WS6 and WS9 RPO codes on the door . As far as I know all 4th gen Formula and TransAms have the WS9 code.

I was told that it meant that in the middle of making the formula a order came in for a trans am so they converted it instead of starting a new car, can anyone confirm this? I have it on mine and the title is stamped formula gt but im pretty sure thats a mistake because to my knollege they only make trans am gt's.

You didnt put that formula stuff on did you? If not you have a rare Trans Am, most trans am's in 94 were actually trans am gt's but a few regular trans ams were made and they came with the formula rear spoilers. It was the only year they did that. There were only 3389 coupe trans am made that year were as they made 6142 coupe trans am gt's. The GT was basically a fully loaded T/A and it also had secial leather seats and the higher spoiler.

What he said . My '94 Trans Am GT has it, as should everyone elses 4th Gen Formula/TA.

Speaking of codes, does anyone know how to figure out what the build number of the car is?
