Default New Early Firebird (68) Owner Has Questions

Hello:

I recently purchased a 1968 Firebird for my son and as we are planning our strategy for fixing/restoring some of the areas on the car, I though I might ask some questions to some other early Firebird owners/fans who are knowledgeable about the car.

As you can see from the photo, the car has no parking/turn signal lights on the front. As I am look through the parts catalogs, I see that I may need a new wiring harness as I can find no leads to where the lights would go (and the horn is missing a lead as well). National Parts Depot has several, but some are for cars with or without warning lignts/cornering lights. What/where are the warning lights? What/Where are the cornering lights? Also, do the parking lights also serve as right/left turn signal lights?

Does anyone also know of any reputable shops in the Tampa Bay area that restores old Firebirds/Camaros?

Thanks

Keith

warning lights refer to the dash red lights. You'd either have these or factory gauges. I'll check on the cornering lights as they may be referring to interior lamps or a different version of the parking/turn signal front lights. I work on the GM catalogs for NPD, so if you have questions you can e-mail me at derek@npdlink.com

Derek:

Thanks for your input. The Speedo and fuel gauge are factory, but there is an aftermarket set of gauges for oil, water temp and battery. I guess the warning lights would be at the bottom of the speedo and fuel gauge?

Looking at the different catalogs (NPD and Classic), amd I correct to say that we would need two parts for the parking light: Lens and lamp housing? Have you seen any complete parking light assemblies?

Thanks for your help.

Warning lamps would be at the bottom of the fuel and speedo gauges. The 68 Firebird has a bunch of parts not available new or reproduced at the moment. the parking lamp lens is still available for RH side from GM (which we have listed in the catalog) and a reproduction set became available about a year ago (which we noe carry, isn't the best quality, but it's the only other option available). The housings would be used/NOD items, I'd chekc out ebay or Hemmings (www.hemmings.com)
