Default v6 Performance

First off let me start off by saying that I know it aint an 8 and I should put my money into geting and 8, but that isn't what I wanna do. (YET)
Are there any v6ers around??
Does anyone know anyone that has hopped the 3.8's up?
Where could I find info and who is the best person to talk to when it comes to my 99 bird and performance mods?
I'd like to do a little something but i DONT want to spend money on allendged power gains unless they work. Someone told me Zangle could help me out.
Any info to speed up my 99 bird would be greatly appreciated.
Joey

I saw that RK Sport has a turbo or supercharger for the 3.8, dunno if it works. Nitrous is your best cheap option

Yeah forced induction is always great, but that'll cost around 3 g's aint it. Well it was last time I checked. Nos is another good consideration, but that will get extremely expensive once you go wet and then injectors, then higher fuel pump, then fuel pressurer reg, then the ECM would be screwed right?
Anyone know anything about the slp puchrod set or the comp cams they are comming out with?
anyone know the horse gains on any of these. Keep in mind that this is a daily driver with about 98000 miles on it. Continued good Gas milage and reliability are a must.

GM High Tech Performance mag did a test and I believe it was 12 or 15 at the wheels. The kit was in the ballpark of $700.00.

FireHawk - for some reason I was thinkin 6-8 rear horse at $800
Can't locate the article a friend of mind borrowed a few so he might have it.

So my next question is how much horse gain would I need to make to be able to feel it?
I haven't ran my car on the track since the rebuilt tranny but I am thinkin it is low 16 or high 15's still.
So what would I have to do to hit the 14 mark and spend under $1500-$2000? Or am I just delusional? well thanks for the feedback so far.. keep it coming

For that kind of money you could do a cam install. The LS1 valvetrain will swap right over to your V-6.. I'm not kidding! Get a heavy cam, headers, and computer programming. Mail order programing is fine.Comp Cams can help out. Give SLP a call. The hp values are correct for the rocker swap, it picks up a bit more than the V-8 does. For the money it is not worth it. I would do the free air mod, tb coolant bypass, underdrive pullies, and think about cam and exhaust. Or use the $1500 as a downpayment on an Ls1... insurance isn' t much more, 98's can be found for 10k. You need at least 15 hp to "feel anything on the butt dyno meter.

Exactly where I was going to suggest. Also there was a good article in GM High Tech Performance Magazine called "Rx for V-6" I can e-mail you if you want it.

I had a 98 Camaro V6 before I got the TA, I had the Fast Toys Ram Air, the Whisper induction lid, and the cat back off a WS6 TA, but it was an A4 so I am not sure how much gain I got from those mods. Also I used Red Line coolant additive because with the FTRA, the engine ran warm so the Red Line kept it in check.

I removed the silencerbox on my '99. I rolled a piece of stainless and semiflated the lid end. Clamped right in and looks factory. I can take a pic if ya wanna see it. I dont know if it helped but car got louder. Buy brother put a high flow muffler on it after he got it and that made a big difference. Sixes are fun aren't they?

Check out www.easternfbody.com and PM rwbeasley, He has the kit FS. I think he is on v6 fbody.com also & racers den. His name is Rob, Great guy. I'm sure he can help you out if you are thinking turbo. When I had my 6 I just used spray, Got a cheep NOS setup and a catback, pacesetter headers, custom intake and had fun.

I too had a v6 before it was v6 2000 conv. camaro and I was on camarov6.com or firebirdv6.com same site either way. they have a guide on mods.

http://geocities.com/brandonppr/
this is my v6 it ran a best of 9.45 in the 8th mile all motor with the mods listed on that page.
Then I got a 75 hp NOS wet kit cost me 250 but normal is 500 from summitracing. 05130NOS 4- & 6-Cylinder universal fogger/wet/dry kit.
I didn't upgrade injectors and had no problems best and most bang for buck mod I did to it. Now the same kit is on my Z28 all you have to do is get diffent jets so when you do get that v8 you already have it and did't waste any money on the other car.
It ran 8.75 on the spray but that was in the heat of the summer the other run was in 30 degree weather.
Good Luck

There's a thirdgen section over @ fv6.com. SOme us even venture to thirdgen .org (looks like Dirk has it back up again )

This should really make you sick though, I have an 85 Firebird w/a 95 3800
very interesting swap so far, especially since the engien harness fried during an engien fire whenI had the 3.4 swapped in.
