All they are, are RPO codes that are assigned so when the car is built the computers/people know which part goes to which frame.

WS6-handling package
Z28-V8 option for camaro

cars were much cooler back in the days of the 442, Chevelle, GTO when the factories were "creative".

Love that quote. I seriously doubt it means anything, but it could be that suspension thing mentioned earlier being it at least started as a suspension package.

I used to think that Z28 meant:

Z=?
2=Two wheel drive
8=8 cylinders

If they put an LS2 in an Azteck I might think about buying one. Maybe?

That works when you think about the z24 cavaliers(i think cavaliers?) but not when you consider a z71 offroad package for the trucks.

Oh well, guess we'll never know for sure.

well if you go by that theory it only works for one car. The Camaro Z-28 there was another one that the first number meant the number of doors on the car.
Z-06 - 0 doors 6 cyl? no
z-24 2 doors 4 cyl? nope 94 and earlier had v-6s
z-26- 2 doors 6 cyl? nope the 94 z-26 had a quad 4 in it
z-28 2 door 8 cyl? ok that works
z-34 3 door 4 cyl? nope 2 doors 6 cyl
z-71 7 doors 1 cyl? i dont think so
